Hello, painters! We’ve passed the middle of October and, of course, everyone’s getting excited about Halloween.
With that in mind, I decided to bring you a list of movies you can watch in this magical – and creepy – time of year, but without focusing on the classics or just general scary films (which Luís will do for you, actually!). They’re Tim Burton‘s masterpieces because, let’s face it, who better to make you fall into the bizarre, unsettling vibe that Halloween should be about?
So put some meat pies in the oven (Sweeney Todd, anyone?), some popcorn on the stove and kick back while getting your creepy on with these amazing films. (Spoiler alert: there might be a lot of Johnny Depp coming up, watch out all fangirls!)
Scary, kind of repulsive, weirdly comical and full of both song and feels. There’s no scary movie that will entertain you this much while making you feel as sad. And it was basically filmed with the entire cast of Harry Potter, plus Johnny Depp. What more could you ask for?
Not as frightening as it is sweet and quirky, this movie is perfect if you want that bizarre vibe but enjoy romance and fantasy a bit more. The love story between Winona Ryder and, you guessed it!, Johnny Depp is the stuff that dreams are made of! The movie’s tagline? “His story will touch you, even though he can’t.”
The first one on the list for the animation fans out there! Tim Burton’s universe is even more powerful and characteristic when put into animated form. Complete with Johnny Depp’s and Helena Bonham Carter’s voices for the leading characters, because even though you can’t actually see them, Tim Burton still needs them there 😉
What happens when Burton puts a spin on an old classic tale? A film that is sure to make you jump in terror, while still being mesmerized by the beauty and enchantment that only a period film can ensnare you with. A movie from the 90’s that will take you back to medieval times!
To end the list, I’ll leave you with Tim Burton’s biggest classic. It’s a mix of his favorite genres: animation, musical, fantasy – and specially, a whole lot of quirky and creepy! The songs are entirely catchy and, if you listen to them, you’ll understand why this masterpiece is beloved by his fans. Although you might be a bit let down with the lack of Johnny Depp, Jack and Sally perfectly make up for it!
So start planning your Halloween, and don’t forget to include a Tim Burton marathon that is sure to make the hair on the back of you neck stand up 😉
