6 movies to sweeten your august

Hello painters!

It’s finally real vacation time for me and I decided to celebrate that by sharing a list of a few movies that will help you relax and enjoy your free time. They’re all “sweet” in their own ways (it’s a very diverse list!), just enough to make up for all that salty water you should be getting your feet into – you know… if it’s summer for you too. If it’s not, these movies are still sweet enough for a rainy afternoon!

Grease

Grease is the classical high school musical (no pun intended with the actual High School Musical) to watch! It’s a light-hearted movie, very romantic and with a dash of humor on the side. You’ll be wanting a milkshake in your hand to go with it 😉

10 Things I Hate About You

Another romantic, teenage classic you shouldn’t miss! Very sweet and a great way to check out some big talents taking their first steps in the show-business: Julia Stiles, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and the incredible Heath Ledger. Perfect for a lazy sunday afternoon and a bowl of popcorn.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

This is a slightly different movie, featuring the wonderful Johnny Depp. It’s full of mystery and fantasy – so if you’re more of a magic fan, this is the one for you! There’s still romance and drama in it, so it’s a very well rounded movie. It will take you into a dream world and show you new possibilities: seize the opportunity!

Forrest Gump

Forrest Gump is the kind of movie that will make you laugh, cry, hang on to the edge of your seat and just all around, melt your heart. Tom Hanks is the protagonist and let me tell you, he pulls off Forrest’s character like no one! It’s the sort of film that’ll get you thinking about life and how it’s so similar to a box of chocolates 😉

Chocolat

Carrying on the chocolate theme, here’s Chocolat to keep sweetening your tooth. It’s based-off a novel by Joanne Harris (so you know it’s good!) – a novel which I read and absolutely loved, by the way. Of course no movie can match its book, but this adaptation, with Juliette Binoche and Johnny Depp, sure does a good job. It will leave you with a sweet taste in your mouth – promised!

Amélie: Le fabuleux destin d’Amélie Poulain

As they say, the best for last: Amélie is definitely the sweetest movie in this list (and probably everywhere as well). It’s about, you guessed it, Amélie, and much like Forrest, she is the sweetest character you’ll find. The adventures she has during the film make you think about our human relationships and what we can mean for each other. Bonus points for being in French – the sweetest language there is. Curl up in the couch with a loved one and enjoy this heart-felt masterpiece.

Stay awesome,

Sofia
